Black and Blue

Our worlds are bruised,

black and blue.

Tender to the touch,

skin every hue.

Clothed and barricaded

so bullets don’t come through.

Word shot out of canons,

screens screaming in plain view.

On our knees praying,

what is right? what should we do?

Hands open, begging God:

make one side out of two.

Bind up our hearts,

let all voices ring true

When we cry, no more lives,

neither black nor blue.
